Epidemiologist · Real-world evidence · Health outcomes · Pharmacoeconomics

I am an epidemiologist and health outcomes researcher with more than three decades of experience across academic research, the pharmaceutical industry, European public-health and regulatory institutions, and higher education.

My work has focused on observational research, patient-reported outcomes, pharmacoepidemiology, pharmacoeconomics, health economics, health data and the generation of evidence to support healthcare decisions.

Professional journey

I began my career in Barcelona in the early 1990s at the Hospital del Mar Medical Research Institute (IMIM), where I worked in epidemiology, public health and patient-reported outcomes. Those years established my long-standing interest in how health outcomes can be measured and used to understand the effects of healthcare interventions in real populations.

My subsequent career has taken me across several parts of the healthcare evidence ecosystem. I worked in health economics, pharmacoeconomics and outcomes research in the pharmaceutical industry, including roles at Eli Lilly and Serono, before moving to European public-health and regulatory organisations.

At the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA), I worked on health economics and epidemiological information. I later joined the European Medicines Agency (EMA), where my work included pharmacoepidemiology, post-authorisation safety studies and the use of observational data in medicines regulation.

I subsequently served as Vice President for Outcomes Research and Development at the International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurement (ICHOM), and later returned to the pharmaceutical industry at Novartis. I currently work there as Global Director, Partnerships and Solutions, with a particular focus on health data, evidence-generation partnerships and the evaluation of data and research capabilities.

Alongside my industry and regulatory work, I have maintained a continuous academic involvement. Since 2007, I have taught postgraduate students through the distance-learning programmes of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM).

Why MyRWE

My Real-World Evidence began as a personal collection of resources that I found useful in my own work. Over time, it evolved into a curated website focused on real-world data, the methods used to transform those data into credible evidence, and the growing role of RWE within broader approaches to integrated evidence generation.

MyRWE is deliberately selective rather than comprehensive. I aim to highlight resources that provide a useful starting point for researchers and practitioners, particularly those maintained by public institutions, academic organisations and research infrastructures.

The site reflects a professional perspective shaped by experience across research, industry, regulation, health economics and teaching. It is an independent personal project and does not represent the views or positions of any organisation with which I am affiliated.

Research & teaching

My academic work spans epidemiology, health outcomes measurement, patient-reported outcomes, pharmacoepidemiology, pharmacoeconomics and real-world evidence. I have published extensively in these areas and have contributed to methodological, regulatory and applied research across different healthcare settings.

Teaching has remained an important part of my professional life, particularly in epidemiology, study design, health outcomes and the critical appraisal of evidence.
